Simon Hayes had a very interesting conversation with a post sound mixer that informs his work to this day:

‘Spend the time getting rid of footsteps and doorslams and other extraneous noise so it doesn’t interfere with the dialogue. All I want from you is dialogue as close and as clean and as free of background noise as possible.’ And that was the ethos I went into the film with. 37 films later and that is still my main goal. I wish I could remember his name as he shaped my entire career!
